AMAZINGNESS!
So earlier this year the creators of OBEY teamed up with the Keith Haring Foundation to produce a
collaboration of his artwork on
their clothes, where some of it’s funding went to non-profit organizations that researched and funded the cure for AIDS. This couldn’t have a better idea if you ask me. At the beginning of this year I actually went to the opening of his art exhibit at the BrooklynMuseum… Think lezbians meet gays meet hippie dance party meets sunday bible study. It was the first time I actually was exposed to his artwork and ever since then I’ve been in LOVE! (See below for photos)
So if you don’t know who Keith Haring is either you’ve been living in a box, blind or well a homophobe. Keith Haring was an artist and social activist whose artwork reflected the social times of NYC during the 80′s! His work took a creative and brave approach and was a reflection on sex, war, birth, death… His artwork was some of the first artwork to also ever take on gay culture.
Haring died in February 1990 due to AIDS related complications and his artwork continues to live on in remembrance of those dark times in NYC. Because of Haring’s creative approach of social activism he spread the awareness of not only AIDS, but of the time where it wasn’t educated to the society.
Not only did his artwork look good on murals, and hanging in big time museums, but now they look even better in it’s newest collaboration. I already know what i’m asking for this Christmas ; )
